Thermal baths in Bavaria
Also spelled Bayern
Bavaria's thermal baths run from the Rottal spa towns near Passau, where Bad Füssing's sulphur springs leave the ground at 56 °C, through Franconia to the Alpine edge at Schwangau and Bad Reichenhall and to Lake Constance at Lindau. Some run on brine: the RupertusTherme draws AlpenSole from the Bad Reichenhall salt works, and the Franken-Therme in Bad Windsheim floats bathers on a salt lake of 26.9 % brine. In most of them swimwear stays on in the thermal pools and comes off in the sauna area.

Questions about Bavaria
Are the saunas at Bavarian thermal baths textile-free?
At most of them, yes: swimwear comes off in the sauna area and stays on in the thermal pools, as at Therme Erding, the three Bad Füssing baths, the Lohengrin Therme in Bayreuth and the Kristall-Therme in Schwangau. Therme Erding, Therme Bad Wörishofen and Therme Lindau add that they aren't naturist venues, so a towel or bathrobe goes on outside the saunas. Some keep room for swimwear: the Rottal Terme in Bad Birnbach has a textile sauna in its thermal world, Therme Lindau a textile Finnish sauna and steam bath for thermal guests, and Therme Bad Aibling sets its Sinnekuppel steam bath aside for sweating in swimwear. At the Franken-Therme in Bad Windsheim only the sauna cabins are textile-free, and the rest of the sauna landscape may be used in swimwear.
Which Bavarian thermal baths have women-only sauna days?
Several, each on its own day. The Kaiser-Therme in Bad Abbach gives its sauna to women on Mondays, the Rottal Terme in Bad Birnbach on Monday evenings, the Lohengrin Therme in Bayreuth on Tuesdays, the Sibyllenbad in Bad Neualbenreuth on Tuesday evenings, the Altmühltherme in Treuchtlingen on Wednesday evenings and the FrankenTherme in Bad Königshofen on Wednesdays outside Bavarian school holidays, and most of these days don't apply on public holidays. The RupertusTherme's Staufinnensauna in Bad Reichenhall is always women-only, Therme Lindau runs a Finnish sauna separately for women and for men, and the Wohlfühl-Therme in Bad Griesbach keeps Tuesday as women's day in its hamam.
Can children go to the thermal baths in Bavaria?
At most of them, with age limits that differ from bath to bath. Therme Bad Wörishofen admits guests from 16 except on its FamilienSamstag on Saturdays, the Sibyllenbad in Bad Neualbenreuth admits no children under 10, the Natur-Therme Bedernau lets under-6s into its indoor thermal area only with a doctor's certificate, and the Lohengrin Therme, the Obermain Therme and the Franken-Therme in Bad Windsheim start at 6. The Chiemgau Thermen, the Kaiser-Therme, the Limes-Therme and Europa Therme in Bad Füssing turn away under-3s, while Therme Bad Aibling, the RupertusTherme, the Rottal Terme's thermal world and the Fackelmann Therme in Hersbruck have no minimum age. Sauna areas mostly start at 14, 15 or 16, though the Watzmann Therme in Berchtesgaden admits children from 6 and Therme Obernsees from 3, both with an adult, and the Fackelmann Therme sets no age limit in its sauna park.
Can you get to Bavaria's thermal baths by train?
To many of them, yes, and some are a short walk from the station. The Obermain Therme is three minutes from Bad Staffelstein station, Therme Bad Aibling about 7 minutes from Bad Aibling station, the Altmühltherme about 10 minutes from Treuchtlingen station, and the Franken-Therme a few minutes through the spa park from Bad Windsheim station. Others need a bus or a longer walk: Therme Erding is 800 m from the S2 at Altenerding, the Bad Füssing baths are a bus ride from Pocking/Bad Füssing station, and the Kaiser-Therme in Bad Abbach is on bus line 16 from Regensburg. The Sibyllenbad and the Siebenquell Therme in Weißenstadt are about 30 km and 24 km from Marktredwitz station, with a call-bus to the Sibyllenbad.
