Galatasaray Hamamı
Founded in 1481 under Sultan Bayezid II, this bath in Beyoğlu once washed the pupils of the neighbouring Galatasaray school every morning, with the doors shut to everyone else. After the scrub you can rest by a pool, and a café serves hot and cold drinks.

About Galatasaray Hamamı
The operator tells the founding story this way: walking the land where the school now stands, Bayezid II came on the hut of Gül Baba and asked if he had a wish, and Gül Baba asked for a great school and a complex with a domed hammam. Gül Baba's grave is still inside the complex. The bath sits against the back garden of Galatasaray High School, and over the centuries, the operator says, it has washed pashas, kadis and grand viziers.
