Bagno Vignoni
The medieval square in Bagno Vignoni is one big thermal pool, but it is closed to bathers, as are the old mill basins below the village. To get in the water, day visitors use the three outdoor thermal pools at La Posta, from 35 to 38 °C in the first down to 28 to 32 °C in the last.

About Bagno Vignoni
The square is a stone tank about 50 by 30 metres, fed by a spring that comes out at about 49 °C, heated by the volcanic ground of nearby Monte Amiata. Saint Catherine of Siena and Lorenzo de' Medici both stayed here, and the water has been used for bath and mud treatments since 1170. The overflow runs in a channel out of the village and down to the Orcia, and on the way it drove four underground mills, first recorded in 1207, that kept turning through the summer because the spring never slackened. At dusk the steam rises off the tank and wraps its stone edges.
