QC Terme Bagni Vecchi

Historic baths above Bormio fed by warm springs in the Stelvio National Park, with a natural sweat cave and an infinity pool over the valley. Ludovico il Moro came here in 1496 on Leonardo da Vinci’s advice; today swimsuits are required everywhere and nobody under 14 is admitted.

About QC Terme Bagni Vecchi

The bathhouse was already standing in the 12th century: a cluster of medieval buildings on several levels, partly cut into the rock, with grottoes, tunnels, a chapel and a hotel. Italy's national tourist board says Pliny the Elder was the first to write about these baths. In 1858 the baths passed to Swiss owners, who rebuilt them and added the Hotel Belvedere, and in 1981 the whole Bagni di Bormio complex of hotel, baths, park and church was listed as a monument. The pools carry old names, from the Archduchess's pool to Cassiodorus's, and from the big outdoor pool over the Bormio basin you often see ibex.
