About Friedrichsbad
After the first showers, the circuit moves to wooden loungers under hand-painted majolica tiles, in warm air at 54 °C and then hot air at 68 °C. At set times, for an extra fee, an attendant soaps you and scrubs you with a natural-bristle brush for about ten minutes. The round exercise pool, which the operator says many count as the high point, is only 28 °C, under a dome almost 18 metres high. At the end you are wrapped in a pre-warmed sheet in the rest room, and tea waits in the reading room. The Roman baths found during construction, probably finished in the 70s AD, still show their underfloor heating.
