Terme di Sorano
Thermal park 3 km from Sorano on the Pitigliano road, opened in 2006 after a truffle hunter found the lost spring again in December 2000; the restored medieval parish church stands at its centre. The oval main pool, about 370 m² and 135 cm deep, takes spring water that rises at 37.4 °C, and the 15th-century Bagno dei Frati basin beside it is also open to bathers.

About Terme di Sorano
The hill above the spring is travertine, the only one among the tufa towns around Sorano, and cores drilled on site found tens of thousands of years of deposits two metres down. The parish church built by the Aldobrandeschi counts, who held these lands, shows the spring was in wide use around the year 1000, and the operator says Pope Gregory VII came to bathe. The Diocese of Pitigliano closed the church in the middle of the 20th century, the pools were lost to vegetation, and quarrying of the hill in the 1960s is thought to have destroyed the spring. The truffle hunter who rediscovered it was out with his dog Diesel, a lagotto and Irish setter cross.
