Terme Antica Querciolaia

The 19th-century core of this Rapolano bath was built as a horseshoe around the spring, where Garibaldi treated his Aspromonte wound in 1867. Indoor and outdoor pools hold sulphurous water in two bands, warm baths at 39 to 40 °C and temperate baths at 30 to 34 °C, and the operator says the water is not disinfected.

About Terme Antica Querciolaia

Garibaldi wrote in August 1867 that the Rapolano baths had cleared a lingering trouble in his left foot, and that the effect was instant. The two bands of water come from springs of different temperatures whose trace had been lost and which were brought back into use, and both smell of hydrogen sulphide. Algae grow in the untreated pools, and the springs flow strongly enough to renew the water all the time. A sheltered entrance leads out to the outdoor pool, so it is used in the cold months too.
