Earth Lagoon Mývatn
The lagoon formerly known as Mývatn Nature Baths, rebuilt and reopened as Earth Lagoon Mývatn in summer 2026. Water from the Bjarnarflag borehole arrives at about 130 °C and is cooled to 36 to 40 °C with no chlorine, and a swim-in steam cave is heated by natural vents.

About Earth Lagoon Mývatn
The operator says steam bathing around Mývatn goes back centuries and turns up in the Icelandic sagas. The first lagoon opened here in 2004, fed from the National Power Company's borehole at Bjarnarflag, and the water is returned to the ground after use. The new building, just under 4,000 m², uses local stone for its cladding, interior walls and terrazzo floors, and the new lagoon is formed around a tuff pillar island, with a waterfall and a passage through a fissure into a larger, open section. Reception and the bistro face west over the lagoon and Lake Mývatn.
