Thermal baths in Eger and the Bükk
The Bükk is a range of limestone hills in northern Hungary, most of it a national park, and on its southern slopes lie the vineyards of the Eger wine region, home of Egri Bikavér. Water comes up hot around its edges, much of it sulfurous or medicinal. In Eger, the Eger Thermal Bath in the Érsekkert park is joined by a covered passage to the Turkish Bath, built under Ottoman rule in 1610 to 1617. Nearby, the Egerszalók Thermal Bath sits beside a white limestone hill that its spring water has laid down, and Bogács has medicinal pools on the southern edge of the hills. On the plain below, the Zsóry Bath at Mezőkövesd runs sulfurous water, and on the eastern side the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath fills its pools inside a natural cave.
