Romania has many spa towns on mineral and thermal springs, a tradition that runs from the Roman baths of Băile Herculane in the south-west to the resorts of Transylvania. Near Bucharest, geothermal water drawn from deep wells feeds a modern bath complex.

Questions about Romania
Do you need swimwear in Romanian thermal baths?
Yes at Therme București, in every zone and in the Elysium saunas too, with a towel that covers the whole body; the operator says there is no nudist section and will not be one in Romania. Strand Apollo in Băile Felix, Venus Waterland at Băile 1 Mai and AquaPark Cozia in Călimănești also require swimwear in the pools, and Cozia asks for pool slippers and a shower with soap before you get in.
Can children go to Therme București?
Galaxy, with the slides and wave pool, takes any age. The Palm admits over-14s, plus under-3s with a parent, and the Elysium saunas have no under-14s. Under-14s must be with an adult; over-14s may come alone with ID.
How do you get to Therme București from Bucharest?
STB bus 442 runs from Piața Presei Libere to Therme București by way of Henri Coandă Airport.
Is the water at Therme București thermal?
The operator says its pools use geothermal water drawn from 3,100 meters, with The Palm's main pool at 33 °C. The three mineral pools in The Palm have Dead Sea, lithium, calcium and magnesium salts added.
How warm is the water in Romanian thermal pools?
Warm rather than hot, between about 28 and 37 °C. The thermal pool at Wellness Tușnad is kept at 34 to 36 °C, AquaPark Cozia's pools run from 28 to 37 °C, and The Palm's main pool at Therme București is 33 °C. Cooler springs feed some open-air strands: the water at Băile Daco Romane in Geoagiu-Băi is about 29 to 33 °C at the source, and Ștrandul Moneasa's spring is 31 °C.
Can you bathe in Romanian thermal water in winter?
Yes. Strand Apollo in Băile Felix has outdoor thermal pools open all year; Aqua Park President there, AquaPark Cozia in Călimănești and Wellness Tușnad are year-round pool complexes, and Wellness Center Praid is indoors. Venus Waterland at Băile 1 Mai is a summer complex.
Where are the thermal baths near Oradea?
At Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai, two spa villages just south-east of the city. Băile Felix has Strand Apollo, Felixarium at the Lotus Therm hotel and Aqua Park President, all open to day visitors, and Venus Waterland at Băile 1 Mai opens in summer.
Can children use the thermal pools at Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai?
Yes, with an adult: under-14s at Strand Apollo and all minors at Venus Waterland must be accompanied. At Venus Waterland the operator doesn't recommend the thermomineral pools for children under 3 and limits them to 10 minutes for ages 3 to 7 and 15 minutes for ages 7 to 14. The saunas at Aqua Park President are for over-16s.
