About Löyly
Löyly started as a City of Helsinki plan to bring new life to Hernesaari, a former industrial peninsula with a cruise ship harbour, and went through a sauna village and a floating sauna before the open sea and pack ice ruled the second out. Actor Jasper Pääkkönen and Antero Vartia finally raised the money to build it. Inside the faceted pine cloak sits a black box holding the warm rooms, and the slats work like venetian blinds, letting you see the sea while blocking views in. The cloak steps up to lookout terraces on the roof, and part of the big terrace stands over the water, so you hear waves under your feet.
