Scala dei Turchi
A stepped cliff of soft white marl rises out of the sand between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle, and you reach it by walking along the beach from one of four access points off the SP68. Standing on the marl itself is a timed 20-minute ticketed visit, and the comune shuts it in rain, strong wind or rough sea.

AccessWalking on the marl is a timed 20-minute visit with a €6 ticket, paid by card at the entrance, daily 08:00 to 19:40 last entry. The rest of the promontory is fenced off by municipal ordinance; taking marl is banned.

Expect the sea at about 25 °C in August and 15 °C in January, going by the 1991 to 2020 averages. The swimming season runs from June to November.
Getting in
- Access
- From the car parks you reach the sand through four access points (Pizzeria Scala dei Turchi, Acanthus beach club, White bar-Lounge beach, Majata beach) and walk along the beach to the marl entrance. The marl is soft and erodes: the comune closes it during weather alerts, rain, strong wind, rough sea, heat above 34 to 35°C and after earthquakes above magnitude 2.5. Soft-soled, non-slip shoes are required on the marl.
