Giardini Poseidon Terme

Founded in 1959 by the German doctor Gernot Walde on farmland in the Bay of Citara, the park has thermal pools from 28 to 40 °C fed by springs that emerge at 25 to 85 °C. The thermal pools are emptied every evening and refilled with spring water, and the steam bath is built into a natural pumice grotto.

About Giardini Poseidon Terme

In the 1970s the Bavarian industrialist Ludwig Kuttner took the park over and had the architect Fritz Zollinger redesign it, and another Bavarian, Anton Staudinger, bought it in 1984; his family took over its management after him. One island legend the operator retells has the springs of Citara formed by the tears of Venus Citerea, mourning Adonis. Among the pools are the Aphrodite pool at 32 °C, with massage jets and waterfalls, and a Japanese treading pool lined with river stones of different sizes. The park is planted only with Mediterranean species, and the gardeners protect them with nettle slurry and ladybird larvae.
