Thermal baths in Ischia
Ischia is a volcanic island at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 km from the city, rising to Monte Epomeo at around 789 m. On its west coast hot springs feed thermal parks and run straight into the sea. Giardini Poseidon Terme spreads along the Bay of Citara south of Forio, with thermal pools from 28 to 40 °C and a steam bath in a pumice grotto. Negombo fills San Montano bay at Lacco Ameno with pools of spring and sea water, and at Baia di Sorgeto, down about 200 steps at Panza, hot spring water mixes with the sea in pools ringed with stones.

Questions about Ischia
Where is the free hot spring on Ischia?
At Baia di Sorgeto, a cove at Panza, below Forio on the west of the island, about 200 steps down from the road. There's no ticket: hot spring water meets the sea in natural pools ringed with stones, reaching up to 37 °C, and a restaurant overlooks the bay. You can only get down on foot.
Can you bathe in Ischia's hot springs in winter?
Yes, at Baia di Sorgeto, where the water stays warm enough that people bathe there in winter too. The two thermal parks close for the winter: Negombo from 14 October 2026 and Giardini Poseidon Terme from 1 November 2026.
Can children use the thermal pools on Ischia?
Not the hot ones, but both parks have seawater pools and a beach for them. At Giardini Poseidon Terme children under 12 stay out of the thermal pools and use the Olympia, Tortuga and Medusa seawater pools, and under-4s enter free. At Negombo children under 1.40 m can't use the thermal pools, and the children's seawater pool is heated.
Do you need a swim cap at the Ischia thermal parks?
At Giardini Poseidon Terme yes, in every pool; at Negombo no. Poseidon has no textile-free area, though women may sunbathe topless on its beach.
How do you get to the Ischia thermal parks by ferry and bus?
Take a ferry or hydrofoil to Ischia Porto, Casamicciola Terme or Forio, then an island bus. EAV bus line 2 ends at Citara-Giardini Poseidon, about 100 m from the park entrance. For Negombo, buses 1, 2, CS and CD stop at Hotel San Lorenzo, a 500 m walk down a signed path with steps; Forio and Casamicciola are about 3 km away, Ischia Porto about 7 km.
