About Porchester Spa
Herbert Shepard designed the building, which opened as Paddington Central Baths and took the name Porchester Centre in 1929, when the hall and the spa were added. The hot rooms keep their Roman names, from the Tepidarium (warm) to the Caldarium (hot) and the Laconium, the hottest. The spa went through an £800,000 refurbishment that its operator says returned it to its 1920s look, and the council calls it London's oldest spa.
