Thermal baths in Stockholm
Stockholm is built on islands where Lake Mälaren drains into the Baltic, with the archipelago reaching east towards the open sea. Its bathhouses run from a pool hall in Östermalm to a lakeside sauna in the Nacka nature reserve and a Japanese-style bath at Hasseludden on the archipelago. From Sturebadet it's a walk of about 1.5 km to Djurgården, the island where the Vasa Museum and Skansen stand.

Questions about Stockholm
How do you get to Yasuragi from central Stockholm?
By bus or by boat. Take a bus from Slussen to Orminge Centrum and change to bus 417 towards Hasseludden, about 35 minutes plus a short walk, or the Waxholmsbolaget boat from Strömkajen to Hasseludden pier, about 30 minutes and then a 10-minute walk uphill. In winter the boat runs twice a day.
Do you need to book a bathhouse in Stockholm?
Yes, at Yasuragi, Sturebadet and Hellasgården. Yasuragi sells packages tied to arrival windows and only on pre-booking, Sturebadet's day tickets come with a booked morning, afternoon or evening window, and Hellasgården sells 90-minute visits from a booked start time.
Can you swim in the lake at Hellasgården near Stockholm in winter?
Yes. Bathers use the sauna jetty into Källtorpssjön all year, and in winter a pump keeps a hole in the ice open. The operator warns that the jetty gets slippery and advises swimming with company, and diving from it isn't allowed.
Can teenagers go to a spa bath in Stockholm?
Not to Sturebadet, which has an age limit of 18. Yasuragi admits 16-year-olds with a guardian, and from 13 during Swedish school holidays.
