Thermal baths in Lorraine and the Vosges
Lorraine is the northeast of France between Champagne and Alsace, with the Vosges mountains rising along its eastern edge. Its spa towns sit on the plateaus and plains west of the mountains: Vittel and Contrexéville, a few kilometers apart in the Vosges département and both known for their bottled mineral water, Nancy, the old capital of the Dukes of Lorraine, and Amnéville in the Moselle north of Metz. Vittel Spa, the spa of the Thermes de Vittel founded in 1855, and the Spa des Thermes de Contrexéville sell entries of two or three hours to thermal pools with a sauna and hammam, and Nancy Thermal reopened in 2023 around the city's historic round pool. In Amnéville's leisure park, the family bath Thermapolis and the adults-only Villa Pompéi share the Saint Eloi thermal water, pumped from 900 m down in pink Vosges sandstone.
