Thermal baths in Saturnia

Saturnia sits in the Maremma of southern Tuscany, about 35 km east of Grosseto. Below it one sulphurous spring feeds two places: the free travertine pools of the Cascate del Mulino and the paid thermal park of Terme di Saturnia. Pitigliano, a town built along a ridge of tufa rock, is about 13 km east.

Questions about Saturnia

What is the difference between the Cascate del Mulino and Terme di Saturnia?

The Cascate del Mulino are free; Terme di Saturnia is a paid thermal park. Both use the same sulphurous spring, which leaves the ground at 37.5 °C: the park sits at the spring with four outdoor pools, and the water runs on to the travertine pools beside the old mill, which have no gate and need no booking. Only the park's Club ticket includes the natural spring pool itself.

How do you get to the Cascate del Mulino in Saturnia?

By car, signposted off the road from Saturnia to Montemerano, with a free car park about 3 minutes' walk from the pools. Autolinee Toscane bus 17P runs from Manciano to the Saturnia Terme stop, about 800 m from the falls.

What do you need to bring to Terme di Saturnia?

Swimwear and pool slippers, which are required everywhere in the park. Towels and bathrobes must be white, and you can rent them on site.

Can children go to Terme di Saturnia?

Yes, children are welcome in the thermal park. Under-14s and anyone under 1.50 m can't use some pools or the waterfalls, and children under 3 need swim nappies.
