Thermal baths in Castiglione d'Orcia
Castiglione d'Orcia climbs from the Val d'Orcia onto the slopes of Monte Amiata, about 50 km south-east of Siena. At Bagni San Filippo, one of its villages, hot spring water runs free through the woods over white limestone it has built up itself. Walking paths climb through beech woods to the summit of Monte Amiata, about 8 km south-west.

Water leaves the spring at 48 °C on the slopes of Monte Amiata and has built white limestone formations in the woods, the largest known as the Balena Bianca, the White Whale.
