About Agios Nikolaos hot spring
This is one of several places to bathe on the volcanic Methana peninsula, and its sodium chloride water is a different thing from the sulfur springs at the entrance to the spa town to the south, which run into the sea in a milky band with a distinct smell. In the seaside settlement of Agios Nikolaos are the historic Baths of Pausanias, which tradition links to a volcanic eruption in the 3rd century BC. Locals use Methana's free natural springs in winter and summer, at all hours of the day and night.
