Swimming in Taormina

Taormina stands on a hillside above the Ionian Sea on Sicily's east coast, about 50 km north of Catania airport, with Mount Etna to the south-west. Below the town, Isola Bella is a beach joined by a thin spit to a small island that is a nature reserve. Up in the town, the Greek theatre is cut into the hill and looks out over the bay of Giardini Naxos.

    A beach below Taormina joined to the small island of Isola Bella by a thin spit, a short way from the lower station of the Mazzarò cable car.
