On the Ionian coast of south-east Sicily, Siracusa is about 50 km south of Catania airport. Fontane Bianche, a holiday village about 15 km south of the centre, has a sand beach shared by beach clubs. Ortigia, the small island that holds the city's old centre, has the cathedral square and the Fountain of Arethusa, about 13 km north-east of the beach.
