Central Mineral Bath Bankya

Bankya's Central Mineral Bath, designed by the Bavarian architect Karl Hocheder, opened on 24 May 1911 and reopened in October 2022 after a restoration begun in 2018. Its thermal zone centres on a round 6.30 m flow-through pool of mineral water, and the wellness zone adds two hydromassage pools of mineral water at 32 °C.

About Central Mineral Bath Bankya

Building work began in 1907, and the bath cost 824,222 gold leva. The foyer is 11 by 11 metres under a vault, and each section once had 10 tubs, two of them kept for the royal family. Pools and tubs are faced with Italian marble and mosaic, the doors and floors are Slavonian oak, and materials down to the glass bricks were shipped in from Belgium, France and Vienna. The building is a listed cultural monument, and days after reopening in 2022 it won the grand prize of the Bulgarian Architecture Awards.
