Swimming in Garachico

Garachico is a small town facing the Atlantic on the north-west coast of Tenerife, about 45 km west of Tenerife North airport. On its seafront, El Caletón is a string of natural pools in the lava rock beside the promenade, open to the swell. In Icod de los Vinos, about 4 km east, a garden of native plants surrounds the Drago Milenario, a giant dragon tree.

    Rock pool, Garachico

    Lava from the 1706 eruption that buried much of Garachico ran into the sea here and set into a string of rock pools beside the promenade.
