Kissamos is a port town on the Gulf of Kissamos at the western end of Crete, about 33 km west of Chania. From its port, day boats run out round the Gramvousa peninsula to Balos Lagoon. Excursion boats also land on the island of Imeri Gramvousa, where a spiral path climbs to a Venetian fortress.

    Beach, Kissamos · Natura 2000 protected area (Gramvousa); the Municipality of Kissamos collects a use fee on site in the 2026 season.

    White sand runs out between the Gramvousa peninsula and the small Tigani headland, closing off a lagoon only a few centimetres deep, with deeper water for swimming on the right-hand side of the bay.
