At the south-west corner of Crete, Elafonisi lies about 27 km south-west of Kissamos and 52 km from Chania. The beach faces a sandy islet you can wade out to, and the islet and coast form a Natura 2000 site. The monastery of Chrysoskalitissa stands about 5 km north, on the road in.
